Self-Leveling Underlayments The term self-leveling has always seemed like a
bit of a misnomer to me. It is most commonly used to describe a broad category
of cementitious products which when poured in a semi-liquid state, aid in
bringing otherwise deficient floors into either a flat or level condition. The
large size tiles and patterns popular today make floor flatness a critical
issue in most ceramic tile installations.
Large format tile installations: background, surface prep, adhesives, installation, grouting, and curing Large tiles are great because they reduce grout joints and provide a look that is incomparable. But not all large format tiles are alike, with some being so deformed as to render them almost impossible to install without excessive lippage. Unlike smaller tiles that can more easily conform to a less-than-smooth surface, large format tiles require a very flat surface for a smooth finish, and as the tile size increases, so, too, must the degree of flatness.

Radiant Heated Tile Floors For several years, the NTCA has been actively promoting the sale and installation of radiant heat as an underlayment for ceramic tile and natural stone installations. It has been, and continues to be our contention that heated floors will add value and comfort for homeowners, creating a higher demand for our products in more areas and space of the home. In addition, the use of these quality products can add significant profit to the sale and installation price of the project.
